Artist CM Robertina

CM Robertina | Contemporary Abstract Artist

Over the last five years the artist CM Robertina has become increasingly interested in exploring the tension between the relatively fixed form of the body and the shifting nature

of emotions - the way our most intense feelings find expression on and through the body. In her current studies of male and female nudes, form becomes overwhelmed by an abstract wash of shapes and colours etched on the field of emotional and sexual experience.

CM Robertina’s series of shibari paintings (shibari is the Japanese word broadly meaning binding or tying) reflect her current interest in an aesthetic of contrasting states. Here she explores two facets of this complex relationship: firstly, the constraints and distortions of the body caused by the voluntary abandonment to the ropes; and secondly, the simultaneous emotional freedom associated with the physicality of these new forms.

CM Robertina complements her exploration of emotion and form by bringing her own body into play through life modelling - a continuation of her artistic practice by other means. For CM Robertina nakedness exposes the self, liberated from the straitjacket of social perception and identities.

“It is all about emotion” CM Robertina

CM Robertina’s work is compelling and engaging, sometimes intense and dark, at other times explosive and brightly coloured. Her engagement with lived experience and what it means to be human is always deeply personal.

CM Robertina is the creative persona of Cecile Creemers. She works from her studio at Kunsthuis which will showcase her new works on a regular basis in dedicated exhibitions.
